Mapping the way

June 29, 2009

Over the weekend I set to creating a ‘road map’ of how we want the website to function.

This process included identifying what elements we want on each of the pages and penciling in a rough time-line for the expected steps along the way.

I’ve also been noting additional elements to be wary of; photography, editorial content and getting stakeholders to ‘buy in’ and contribute etc,

From here I’m about to meet with Paul from five15design to start the ball rolling.

  1. in terms of ease of use, extensive functionality, and a tonne of flexibility for creating a website, I reckon you can’t beat MediaWiki.

Some hackers have managed to get MediaWikis looking very slick – while retaining the great features for website authors.

You’ll need a server (local or offshore)
MediaWiki software is free, and many offshore servers have one click install
And an experienced mediawiki hacker – hard to come by in medieval Dunedin..
